Synthetic Times – Media Art China 2008
Dutch contribution for activity in cultural program at the Olympics is curated by V2_Institute for the Unstable Media
Chinese universities, museums, V2_ and Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (Germany) collaborated for four years prior to this exhibition. 26 countries contributed with 40 works of art. The Dutch contribution, curated by V2_ consists of works by up and coming talent and established names.
The development of China is closely connected to theory and practice of information technology and new media. The art works in the exhibition were selected to fit the four themes: Beyond Body, Emotive Digital, The Recombinant Reality en Here, There and Everywhere. These themes all reflect on the relation between man and technology, and the human obsession to strive for utopian scenario’s for the future by means of technology. The exhibition is supported by an educational program that will enhance the experience for a large audience.
