Five exhibitions on Chinese archaeology, realistm, avant-garde art and contemporary art
In 2008, the Drents Museum and the Groninger Museum will be completely devoted to China. The project entitled GoChina! Assen-Groningen offers five exhibitions on the versatile and rich culture of China.
In this series special attention will be paid to Chinese archaeology, Chinese realists, Avant-garde art and Chinese contemporary art.
Drents Museum
From 2 February to 31 August 2008, the original and world-renowned soldiers from the Terracotta Army of Xi’an will be on show in the Drents Museum, along with other findings from the tomb of the First Emperor of China. Only on rare occasions do these items travel beyond the Chinese borders, and the exhibition has been put together especially for the Netherlands.
Groninger Museum
In Groningen, the whole of the Groninger Museum will be transformed into a “Small Chinese Empire’. The exhibitions of archaeological bronze objects from the Shanghai Museum, present-day Chinese art – including work by Ai Weiwei – and Chinese Realists and Avant-garde art from the 1980s and 1990s shall go on show in stages from 2 February to 23 November 2008.
