Netherlands China Arts Foundation to devise plan for Dutch cultural programme World Expo 2010

The Dutch ministry of Education, Culture and Science has asked the Netherlands China Arts Foundation to make a plan for a cultural programme around the Dutch entry of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. Monique Knapen, has been assigned to the coordinate this cultural programme in close collaboration with director Martijn Sanders. The foundation will try to devise a cultural programme not only at the Dutch pavilion and on the Expo site, but also in venues in Shanghai and elsewhere in China. 

Urbane gebieden

The 2010 World Expo will be held in Shanghai from 1 May to 31 October 2010. Location of the site is Nanpu Bridge – Lupu Bridge region along both sides of the Huangpu River. The theme of the Expo is Better City, Better Life, representing the shared wish for a better living in future urban environments. Subthemes are: Blending of diverse cultures in the city, Economic prosperity in the city, Innovation of science and technology in the city, Remodelling of communities in the city and Rural-urban Interaction.

Happy Street

The Dutch entry is a high-profile pavilion called Happy Street that has been designed by artist / architect John Körmeling. John Körmeling’s ‘Happy Street’ concept comprises a route through a construction comparable to a roller-coaster and flanked with houses.
