Chinese Shadows - Part 1

Bringing unknown traditions of Chinese musical folklore closer to the western public

In October-November 2007 and in January-February 2008, CHIME invited various Chinese ensembles for concerts and lecture-demonstrations in The Netherlands. 

The Huanxian Daoqing Shadow Puppet Theatre from Gansu Province, the music ensemble of Dai Xiaolian from the Shanghai Conservatory, the Cantonese Music Ensemble led by Yu Lefu (Guangzhou), and the group Red Chamber led by zheng virtuoso Han Mei (now in Canada) gave performances in major concert venues and presented lectures and practical demonstrations in Amsterdam, Heerlen, Leiden and Utrecht. In addition to this, the documentary film ‘Chinese Shadows’ (produced 2007 especially for this project) was shown in all these venues.
